Police officers in Trans Nzoia County are investigating a case where a constable ranked police officer killed a prison officer in Kitale town by shooting.
According to reports, the incident happened on Tuesday at around 4pm at a club a few meters away from the Kitale court buildings.
It is alleged that the two officers had a disagreement which made the constable to take a pistol and shoot the prison officer.
While confirming the incident, the Saboti sub-county police Commander Patrick Gatirira said the constable shot himself in an attempt to commit suicide after killing his colleague, but he was rescued and taken to Kitale level 4 hospital where he is recuperating under strict security.
“We have a murder incident that occurred around 16:00 hours where by two police officers engaged in a sort of argument that led to one officer losing his life and the one sustaining serious injuries and is undergoing treatment at Kitale level 4 hospital,” said Mr. Gatirira.
On the other hand, the incident has been strongly condemned by residents asking the security department to pay attention to the mental health of its officers.
“They were in a club drinking, and after a while they started arguments before one of them took a gun and shot his colleague. We do not know what led to the arguments,” said eyewitnesses.
